Living so close to the border gives J and I the perfect opportunity to make a quick trip to the states for gas, groceries and cheap liquor. Unfortunately we don’t go as often as I would like. Life gets in the way and the thought of border line ups detour us but I really look forward to it each and every time. There is something fun about being in a different country even though its only 10 minutes away and exactly the same. We always, according to me, have to swing by Trader Joes and we always (again, according to me) have to stop for lunch.
The last few times we’ve gone for Mexican and more often than not, it’s been Mi Mexican. I know that I can get a good meal here for a reasonable price and it’s not out of the way either. This last time, however, J said no to Mexican. GASP! I couldn’t imagine going to the States with eating Mexican. I thought I heard wrong, I thought I was dreaming, I thought that suggestion was insane. J then reminded me that I have a food blog, and I should try something new. Fine.
We decided on Bobs Burgers and Brew since it’s on the way, easy to get to and I remember really enjoying it in the past. J informed me that he had never actually eaten here either, which surprised me. I assumed that every Canadian would have eaten here at least once since it is so convenient. Bobs has been around since 1982 and has slowly expanded to 12 different locations specializing in gourmet burgers. With over 20 burgers to choose from you might be there a while just deciding on what to eat.
I decided on the Jalapeno popper burger, which comes with a million little sliced jalapenos, cream cheese, sweet chili sauce, lettuce, tomato and pickles with a side of fries. The burgers are gigantic so if you’re a small eater you definitely can share a platter of food and be full. Or you can be glutinous and finish it all yourself, which I tried my best to do. In my opinion the jalapenos were a bit mild for my liking, but I think for most people it would have been perfect. Unless I am breaking into a sweat and my nose is running, its not hot enough for me. The chilli sauce gives a tang to the burger too that might have been missing if not.
J got the western BBQ burger, which has lettuce, tomato, cheese, bacon, pickles, 2 onion rings and a tangy bbq sauce. J managed to eat the entire burger which was amazing because it was huge! I had a bite and it was probably the perfect J burger. He prefers a basic burger with bbq sauce, which this is, but it steps it up a notch with those onion rings. J also got the “joes”, wedge fries, which are much better then the regular fries. Both burgers also come with a tartar style sauce too which is tasty.
I know J and both really enjoyed our burgers here and I would definitely come back for any major burger cravings. They were a lot better than even some pubs I’ve been to. If you’re not in the mood for burgers they have entrees, sandwiches and salads too, but I’d start with the burgers. You won’t be disappointed.
