Yesterday, I was cruising the internet trying to decide what to make for dinner and with no idea where to turn I decided to check out my own blog and see all that I have accomplished in 2011. This year is slowly coming to an end and not only did my foodblog gain momentum but my personal life was also full of amazing moments.

This year J and I settled into our house, although technically moved in during 2010. We got married, had an amazing honeymoon in Dominican. We also travelled to Vegas and Whistler as well. We adopted our beloved Duke, who is right now at this moment tearing the house appart and squeeking the loudest of his squeakiest toys. I had some memorable moments with my amazing friends and family and we also ate some delicious meals!

Here are the top blog posts of 2011, in my opinion…..

The “best” category was really hard because there are so many amazing dishes that I can’t wait to try again. I never used to like soup so it’s funny that I picked two different soups to be in the best category. The flavours are just so amazing I just think everyone needs to try them.

The Beer and Cheddar soup and Tuscan White bean Soup blew my socks off. They’ve inspired me to continue perfecting soup’s and gourmet sandwiches. J would head straight for the Proper Blokes Sausage pasta, which he asks for all the time and officially announced being his favorite meal. I also couldn’t forget my Green Enchiladas since I have a sweet spot for Mexican ooey gooey goodness.

The best restaurants we went to have to be the Rim Rock Cafe in Whistler, where J and I had our first meal as a married couple and Lava Dining Lounge which is a very close runner up, especially since its practically in our backyard.

The best dessert was in the summer when I made a fresh homemade Rhubarb Strawberry Pie. It was sweet, tart, flaky and delicious. J still thinks that this is the best pie he ever ate.

There were a few meals that are not your typical meals turned out amazing that they have to mentioned.  We had Grilled Peaches with Mascarpone and Bacon which is absolutely amazing. Sweet and savoury! The Peanut Butter Bacon burger is also a delicious way to make burger night in a conversation piece. Funny how they both incorporate bacon!

Since breakfast is the most important meal of the day I couldn’t leave out this category.  Shakshuka eggs were so tasty that I needed to throw it out there again. A little time consuming but oh so worth it. The other was the Lemony Cream Cheese Pancakes with Blueberry Thyme Compote. Again, another time consuming meal but you haven`t lived unless you try these!

A lot of the time I would rather just eat all day long then sit down to a meal so I have to point out these side dish-appetizers. Baked button mushrooms are to die for and go so well with all sorts of meals or just as a snack. Grilled Oysters with a Lime Vodka Sauce  also make my mouth water and its 10am right now. Is it too early for oysters? For a local delicacy the Spot Prawns have to be mentioned as well. Those sweet little prawns will make any seafood lover weak in the knees.

Not everything in 2011 was so tasty. One dish I could have lived without was the Fennel Tomato Sardine Linguine. The presentation was beautiful and I think if I liked sardines this would be amazing. Silly me for making a meal with a main ingredient that I don’t prefer. Opps. The biggest fail has got to be hands down the Que Pasa Taco Kit. It was worst then anything I have ever bought before. If you want to eat muck, eat cat food. Not this!

Last but not least I have to also bring up the Food Cart Tour J and I did in September. It was a lot of fun and such a great opportunity to try out a variety of different foods you wouldn`t normally do on your own. This is a must do or any of the foodie tours would be well worth your while.

Well, thanks everyone for making 2011 so memorable and I can’t wait to see what 2012 has in store!
