I used to be totally hooked on groupon. Scratch that, I AM totally hooked on groupon and I try and buy as many deals as I can until J steps in and puts his foot down. For a while I had one sitting around and forgotten about it. I bought a groupon to The Fox’s Reach when we first moved to Maple Ridge but I kept forgetting about it until we went on our honeymoon. I didn’t want to buy any groceries right before leaving for 2 weeks so this was the perfect opportunity to try The Fox’s Reach.
I came here once before with a girlfriend of mine and I remembered it being pretty good so I was sort of excited to eat here again. It’s located at 300-20398 Dewdney Trunk rd in Maple Ridge. The restaurant looks like it’s been renovated because it seems really modern and warm feeling. We were seated right away and the service was fast and attentive.
We ordered shrimp purses to start and each ordered a grolsch beer. The beer came fast and was nice and cold. The shrimp purses fallowed soon after and I was shocked at the speed of our appetizer. The restaurant was pretty busy so I guess these purses are something that just needs to be thrown in the deep fryer for 3 minutes. They were basically processed shrimp balls tied in a wonton wrapper with boring sweet chilli sauce to dip. I really wasn’t too impressed with these because I prefer whole pieces of shrimp.
I ordered the steak and prawns served with mashed potatoes and veggies. It came with 2 skewers of prawns resting on top a medium rare steak. The potatoes were over boiled and mashed with no seasoning and the veggies also seemed like they were either steamed or boiled, again with no seasoning. Luckily there was salt and pepper on the table but I wasn’t really unimpressed with how bland this meal was.
J ordered a half rack of ribs with a Caesar salad. His ribs were cooked well and seemed tender but the sauce was probably Kraft original sauce. Same with the salad, it also wasn’t very impressive. I am pretty sure I have bought a pre-packed salad kit at save-on-foods that tasted better.
The atmosphere at Fox’s Reach is great as with the services and the prices but my only complaint is that it’s on the boring side. Since the prices are amazing, even without the groupon, Id have to say you really get a bang for your buck but you have to be prepared that your food isn’t going to be very fancy or blow you away. It’s basic and if that’s your thing then this is your place.
