I don’t know what the average person’s weekend looks like but for some reason ours always consists of running errands. Why we can’t figure out how to do this during the week to leave relaxation for the weekend is something I will never understand. It’s weird to me that I would rather relax on week nights and expose myself to busy crowds on weekends then to just get everything out of the way during the boring weeknights. Despite having to fight through busy grocery stores I did manage to play baseball with friends, watch J play hockey, watch the Canucks play hockey, go to the home show, and also enjoy the sun shining in my backyard while sipping on a Caesar so I really shouldn’t be complaining. I also get the chance to try out Ridge Meadows Donairs as well before the ball game!
They’re located at 22363 Lougheed Highway. Its been a while since I have had a good Donair. The last time I had one was in the Willowbrook mall food court, courtesy of Pita Pizzaz and we can all agree that anything from a food court isn’t exactly number one so I was excited that J suggested that we try this Donair shop. From the outside it looks as though they’ve been here for a while and when I’ve driven by in the past there always seems to be someone eating there. We pulled up right before noon on Saturday and we were the only people there. A man greeted us and we both ordered the Beef Donair, while J got the super size.
The first thing we noticed about the donairs was that they were made in the same size pita even though J requested the Super Sized. There was slightly more meat in his but not enough that I noticed. The donairs themselves were pretty decent. The meat was tender and flavourful and I do think a good amount of meat was put in the pitas as well. It was topped with quite a bit of shredded iceberg, some cucumber, tomato and the sauces. Again, I would say that these donairs were pretty decent but they didn’t blow me away.
