In the past Earls and I have had some differences. Sometimes it’s made me vow never to return but for some reason I have gotten sucked back in many times to eat here. The menu doesn’t change too often and offers the typical pub/restaurant food like burgers, steaks, bowls, pizzas and appys. The last few times I’ve gone it’s been fine but let’s face it, it’s still Earls.
Recently I won a gift certificate to Earls and since there was a Canucks game on last night I thought it would be nice to take J out. It was also a Wednesday so their Albino Rino pints were on for 3.99 and wings were half price, perfect for watching the game.
The Albino Rino ale is pretty decent, I thought it was served a little on the warm side but J said it was fine. We also got a pound of Thai wings and parmesan dip to start. We usually go for hot wings and I think J was a little sceptical but we both really enjoyed this flavour. It’s slightly sweet and has a nice soy flavour to it. The wings were cooked perfectly. The meat wasn’t overdone, they weren’t greasy, and there was almost a slight crunch to the outside.
We decided that instead of ordering meals we would just keep ordering food to share all night and I absolutely loved this idea. The second item we got was their pan bread served with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. You really can’t go wrong with this choice. The pan bread is like light fluffy herbed bread. It’s about 2 inches thick, crispy on the outside, and light on the inside. Perfect for tearing up and dipping. I didn’t grab a photo, we ate it too fast.
The last things we got was a margarita pizza, and I asked them to add chicken. The last time I requested this, the chicken was chopped up in bite sized pieces and seemed to have been marinaded. This time it was a plain chicken breast cut in strips and seasoned with salt and pepper. I guess each Earls does it a little different. The pizza itself wasn’t too bad. The crust was thin, slightly chewy and crispy around the edges. It has a light tomato sauce with mozzarella and chopped up basil. The basil was put on after the pizza was cooked which it fresh and light tasted.
Overall I wasn’t disappointed, I left full and happy, and the food was actually pretty good. Maybe I won’t be so hard on them and make a bit more of an effort to go there.
