Today I officially asked one of my best girlfriends to be my maid of honour and then I dragged her all the way to Chilliwack to see a wedding venue to get her opinion. She recently got married and was a maid of honour for another friend of ours so she is basically an expert at this by now! I won’t reveal just yet what location or if we’ve booked it!

After a long drive out to the wack and seeing that there was a heck of a lot of traffic we were in need of food and drink. She suggested a pub so I immediately thought of Duke of Dublin Old Irish Pub. It’s pretty new to Chilliwack and I have heard some pretty good reviews on it as well. It’s located at 9254 Nowell Street, Chilliwack BC. You also can’t miss it since it sticks out like a sour thumb; a brand new trendy pub in the midst of old rundown buildings. Yup, Chilliwack at its finest! The place was very clean, open, and bright and all the girls were super friendly!

The menu prices were pretty average compared to most upscale pubs, for Chilliwack maybe a bit on the high side since they don’t really have nice pubs but for the rest of us I think very reasonable prices. I also liked how the items had your usual suspects (nachos, Spinach and Artichoke dip, Salads, burgers, NY steak, pastas and pizzas) but they definitely kick it up a notch with items like, Wenches and Rogues (perogies with sausage, sour cream, sauerkraut and fried onions), Ploughman’s appie board (Stilton blue, Guinness cheddar, summer sausage, fruit, pickled beets, whiskey marmalade and soda bread), Guinness Irish stew, Halibut burger, Bangers and Mash, Steak N’ Guinness pasty (flaky pastry stuffed with steak, mushrooms and onions with a savoury Guinness gravy). They even do a weekend only prime rib dinner.

Today they had fish and chips on special, one piece of halibut for 9.99 or 2 for 11.99. I opted for one piece and chose yam fries and my friend got one piece with curly fries. They also have regular fries as well or if you wanted salad you could do that too, but what’s the point of fish and “chips” if you get salad.  The piece of fish was actually very large and you could tell they battered it themselves; it was a light crunchy batter that wasn’t too thick.  Mine was probably cooked about 30 seconds too long but my friends were perfect. There wasn’t a taste difference, just slightly crunchier so I forgive them. I was really impressed that there was more fish then batter and the fish was rather thick. I hate ordering fish and getting a basket full of batter and wondering what happened to the fish. The amount of fries was great too. It came with their signature tartar sauce as well which wasn’t a mayo/relish sauce. It was more of a tangy dill dip and really went well with the fish. The pints Budweiser was also on special for 3.99 today so to me this was a lunch of champions and was easy on the wallet. I will definitely be going back!!

Sorry, only had the phone camera!
